60 municipalities come together in Montserrat to promote the “Camino de Santiago” of Saint Ignatius of Loyola
He Ignatian Way, that follows in the footsteps of Saint Ignatius of Loyola On its conversion pilgrimage in 1522, it is positioned as a key resource for inland tourism. This 650 kilometer route crosses five autonomous communities, from Azpeitia (Basque Country) to Manresa, with the last 183 kilometers running through the lands of Lleida and Central Catalonia. The final stage, between Montserrat and Manresa, It is especially symbolic for its spiritual charge and natural beauty.
In Montserrata fundamental place in the transformation of Saint Ignatius, Historical spaces are still preserved such as the Gothic cloister and the doorway of the Romanesque church, in addition to the image of the Virgin of Montserrat, known as “La Moreneta”. In Manresa, the Cueva de San Ignacio, now a spiritual center, remains a place of pilgrimage for those seeking personal and spiritual inspiration.
With the aim of highlighting the multiple attractions of the Ignatian Way, 60 municipalities have created the Association of Municipalities of the Ignatian Way. This entity seeks to highlight the spiritual, landscape, cultural, heritage and gastronomic richness of the route.
With an initial base of 60 municipalities and the ambition to add more members, this association aims to turn the Ignatian Way into a tourist reference that combines spirituality and local development. The project is also part of the celebration of the Millennium of Montserrat, which receives more than two million visitors each year.
