Two decades after sweeping the world lists, Shakira and Wyclef Jean have met for a special performance for the anniversary of “Hips Don’t Lie” in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
In Tuesday’s episode (May 6), in which Nate Bargatze and Lorraine Bracco were guests, the duo closed the episode with a faithful and nostalgic interpretation of the subject. Shakira, dressed in red, and Jean, with a white hat, were accompanied by a handful of dancers while they and some live musicians revived success in a small sand.
The performance is only one of three confirmed appearances of Shakira in The Tonight Show For May. Shakira will return to the 6B study this Thursday (May 8) for an interview with Fallon in which he will talk about the impact of the song, his most recent album and the beginning of the US section of his world tour Women no longer cry.
“Hips Don’t Lie” was originally launched in February 2006, when it appeared in the reissue of the 2005 Shakira album, Oral Fixation, Vol. 2. The single – which fuses pop with Colombian cumbia and folklore – gave Shakira and Jean his first No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 list when he reached the top on June 17, 2006. He also headed the Hot Latin Songs and Pop Airplay lists, and it was No. 1 in dozens of countries around the world.
Shakira began their tour, women no longer cry World Tour in Brazil in February, and the American stage will start on May 13 at the Bank of America Stadium of North Carolina. The tour has already become a great success for the Colombian, who in March broke income record for that month with 70.6 million dollars in 11 concerts.
