Samaná, a movie favorite

Samaná has been the scene of various international productions that took advantage of its natural beauty and diversity of landscapes. Among them is the Spanish-Dominican comedy “dawns in Samaná” (2024), directed by Rafa Cortés and starring Luis Tosar, María Luisa Mayol, Luis Zahera and Barbara Santa-Cruz. The film, based on the play “Cancun” by Jordi Galcerán, was filmed entirely on the Samaná Peninsula, especially in the raised resort, whose architecture and paradisiacal environment are integrated into the narrative as another character in history.
Another notable production is “Sand dollars” (2014), a drama directed by Laura Amelia Guzmán and Israel Cárdenas, starring Geraldine Chaplin and Yanet Mojica. The film, which addresses sexual tourism issues and intergenerational relations, used various locations from Samaná, capturing the essence and complexity of the region.
In addition, the Samaná Peninsula served as a location for scenes of large -budget films such as “Pirates of the Caribbean: the curse of the black pearl” (2003) and “Rambo: First Blood Part II” (1985), taking advantage of its exotic landscapes and its impressive coast to recreate adventure and action environments.
