The Trinitarian Culture Week, dedicated in its 52nd edition to the spiritual heritage and the titles of Artisanal City and Creative City, closed the celebrations for the 511th anniversary of the founding of the third town of Cuba
The museums, the Gustavo Izquierdo Tardío municipal library, the Julio Cueva Díaz House of Culture, the Artex Cultural Center and the Benito Ortiz Borrell Universal Art Gallery were hosts of several proposals, including theoretical events, children’s activities and exhibitions by local creators.
Those who decided to live this week from spirituality were grateful for the definitive return of the Teresa Toscano In Memoriam Handkerchief Festival, an idea of the Urdimbre project. The pieces made for this third edition evidenced the exquisite work and legacy of this master of the needle, pride of Trinidad and Cuba, deserving of the UNESCO Craft Excellence Award, an exceptional recognition.
Parallel fabrics by the multi-award-winning painter Yudit Vidal Faife were another of the gifts to the Trinidadians; Intervened canvas prints, sculptures and tapestries bear witness to the roots of lingerie in the city, transmitted from generation to generation.
The pieces that were exhibited are the result of a collaboration between students and teachers from the Workshop School of the City Conservator’s Office with the artisans who make up the project Between threads, wings and brushes led by Vidal Faife.
Among the proposals, it is also worth highlighting the Palobrí exhibition hosted by the Artex Cultural Center. Taking the earth as a material and aesthetic resource, the artist Israel Rondón Mainegra once again surprised the public with a fascinating exhibition that integrates perfectly with the tones of this celebration.
The program also included several shows such as the Gala dedicated to the Movement of Amateur Artists and the work of the Julio Cueva Díaz House of Culture, which received the replica of the Manaca Iznaga Tower during the Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power on this occasion. of the foundation of the town. In Plaza 500, new and experienced artists from the dance, music, theater and literature events received applause from the public.
Between January 12 and 18, Trinidadians enjoyed a festival held for the first time in May 1974, at the proposal of their third historian—now deceased—Carlos Joaquín Zerquera y Fernández de Lara. Since then it has always been celebrated in January, coinciding with the founding of the town.
