The plea agreement of Los Chapitos and the arrest of ‘El Mini Lic’; Both cases could be related
A new stage in the legal proceedings against several Mexican drug traffickers has begun in the United States. The first to appear before US justice in 2025 were Joaquín and Ovidio Guzmán Lópezbut the list also includes Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, better known as ‘El Nini’, and Dámaso López Serrano, alias ‘The Mini Lic‘; the latter arrested a month ago and whose case could be related to that of Los Chapitos.
This is what journalist Luis Chaparro said in a recent interview with Pepe Garza for the channel Yo Tube Radio, in which he pointed out the possibility that the children of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán have been behind the information that allowed the capture of López Serrano on December 12, 2024, in Washington, Virginia.
“With all due respect to the truth, this is merely speculativeso I can read between the lines. But it could be that they were behind the recent arrest of ‘Mini Lic’ and that gives points to the Guzmán López brothers to obtain greater benefits”, he commented.
The statement of the communicator, an expert in drug trafficking, is presented after the past January 7 It was confirmed that Joaquín and Ovidio Guzmán seek to reach an agreement plea agreement with the country of stars and stripes.
A court document later shared by Chaparro himself revealed that after the non-attendance of both brothers at their first status hearing in the Federal Court for the Northern District of Illinoisthe US Attorney’s Office confirmed that they needed more time for negotiation.
Now, Chaparro presumes that the Guzmán López brothers have provided information about ‘El Mini Lic’ and, with this, advance the terms of the plea agreement.
“What that lets me see is that to the ‘Mini Lic’ The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) did not arrest him. If it is a drug charge, the DEA investigates and arrests you, but The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested him. The FBI is the one that brings the case of ‘El Mayo’ and Los Chapitos. So, the ‘Mini Lic’ was mixed up there in that case and to me makes me suspicious that they could have been behind the information that the FBI obtained to arrest Dámaso,” he shared.
Dámaso López was arrested on December 12 at his home located in Washington, Virginia, for “fentanyl trafficking charges”.
As Chaparro revealed through SAGA, around 6:00 p.m. that day, approximately 20 federal agents arrived at his home and executed an arrest warrant against him. ‘The Mini Lic’, by 37 years olddid not resist.
The reports indicate that the FBI had been investigating the accused today. In this regard, it is important to highlight that Ovidio Guzmán López arrived in the United States in September 2023, after being extradited by Mexico. For his part, Joaquín Guzmán López was arrested by FBI agents in July 2024; five months before the fall of ‘El Mini Lic’.
Among the evidence of his alleged return to drug trafficking, in order to distribute fentanyl, is intercepted phone calls, videos and testimonies of three informants who posed as associates of López Serrano.
“Authorities discovered evidence that ‘El Mini Lic’ was part of a group that trafficked fentanyl from Sinaloa to the United States. Two other people are also involved,” Chaparro specified.
Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán López must appear before the Federal Court of the Northern District of Illinois next February 27 and March 19, 2025respectively.
Meanwhile, his attorney continues to hammer out the terms of the plea deals.
