Possible exposure to Shakira’s concert at the Metlife: Alert in New Jersey

He New Jersey Health Department (NJDOH) issued a health alert after confirming that a person with measles attended the concert of Shakira in it Metlife Stadium (East Rutherford) on May 15, 2025, between 7:30 pm and 1:00 am of May 16. The authorities urge those who were in the place during that period to contact their medical provider before to go to offices or hospitals to avoid infections.
The NJDOH points out that the danger applies to those who have not completed their vaccination scheme (two doses of the Triple Viral MMR vaccine) or have not suffered the disease. Symptoms, which may appear until June 6, include:

Coughing, nasal congestion and reddened eyes.

Cutaneous eruption (starts as flat spots on the face and extends to the body).
Measles can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis or affect pregnancies.
The department emphasized that “The MMR vaccine is the most effective form of protection”with a 97% effectiveness after both doses. Until Tuesday, May 20, no additional cases have been reported in the state.
The virus is transmitted by air when coughing or sneezing, remaining active up to two hours in the environment, or by direct contact with mucous or saliva. The authorities reiterate the importance of verifying the state of vaccination, especially in children, pregnant and health personnel.
The Shakira concert is part of its international tour, which continues in other cities in the United States and Latin America.
