The mystery of the A380 that never enters service
From the first moment everything was strange: Global Airlines was born with an ambitious route plan from London to the middle of the United States with A380. The company bought a plane that had belonged to China Southern and since then it has been preparing and flying it without knowing if it will ever provide commercial services and, above all, if there will be any other plane to serve the routes (The airline that only will fly with A380 delays its debut).
Global Airlines never stops announcing an event every few months. He explained the purchase of the plane, recounted the flight from the United States to Prestwick, Scotland; announced the hiring of HiFly from Portugal to carry out the preparation of the plane; reported in detail on maintenance operations in Dresden, Germany; and now he tells us that the plane arrived in Beja, in Portugal, without knowing what the plans are.
The Beja airport, near Spain, has some HiFly hangars, and testing actions are carried out there. But to operate commercial routes, Global would have to have at least a second plane, which is not listed.
James Asquith, the tycoon who owns the single-plane airline, said this flight to Portugal is the fifth operation in the company’s development. And he stressed the importance of the alliance with HiFly. But there is still no date for the start of operations, and the project threatens to never become a reality.
