Warning for possible wave of spreads during Shakira concert in New Jersey

The concert that Colombian singer Shakira offered last Thursday, May 15 at the East Rutherford Metlife Stadium, New Jersey, has become a focus of health alert after confirming that an infected person with measles attended the event. This was reported by the New Jersey Health Department (NJDOH) on Wednesday, May 21, when issuing a statement addressed to the show attendees.
According to the authorities, the infected individual does not reside in the state of New Jersey and was present at the stadium between 7:30 at night and 1:00 in the morning, period in which the concert was developed. Given this situation, a possible mass exposure to this highly contagious disease is investigated, since the enclosure was completely full, housing more than 80 thousand people.
Possible infections may appear
The alert urges anyone who attended the concert and present measles compatible symptoms, such as high fever, nasal secretion, coughing, red -red eyes and red rashes, must contact a health provider before going to medical centers or emergency rooms, with the aim of avoiding a propagation of the virus.
Measles symptoms can take between 10 and 14 days to manifest, so exposed people could begin to present signs of the disease until June 6. Although no new cases have been confirmed in the area so far, the authorities recommended monitoring any symptoms and verifying the vaccination status, especially children, non -immunized people and vulnerable population.
The NJDOH recalled that the best form of prevention is the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, papers and rubella. This is administered in two doses and has proven to be highly effective to prevent contagions and serious complications, such as pneumonia or encephalitis.
This concert represented the second stop of the “Women no longer cry” tour in the United States. The evening, which also had the participation of the urban artist Rauw Alejandro, was one of the most massive events so far in the tour.
So far, Shakira has not publicly spoken about the alert issued by the health authorities.
