Ted Cruz focuses deportations on criminals when speaking at Hispanic gala: “Take your bags and go”
WASHINGTON.- Republican Senator Ted Cruz (Texas) warned that President-elect Donald Trump’s deportation plan will be carried out, but made reference to people with criminal records, during the Hispanic Inaugural Ball.
“If you’re a rapist, if you’re a gang member, pack your bags, because you’re out of here,” Cruz said briefly of Trump’s plan.
Cruz’s remarks come on the same day that an Ipsos-New York Times poll revealed that a majority of Americans support deportations.
However, organizations that defend immigrants warn that the promised raids, which could begin in Chicago, can affect even people without a criminal record.
Cruz led the gala in which the presence of Senator Marco Rubio, nominated as Secretary of State, was expected, but he did not arrive, despite the fact that the event lasted until almost midnight.
The last high-level guest to arrive was Donald Trump Jr., but in the event room, after 11:00 pm, but the tables and chairs were already being lifted by the staff of the Omni Shoreham Hotel, where the gala was held.
Cruz spoke of the Republican agenda in Congress, tied with that of President-elect Trump: energy plans, stating that there is a “war” against energy production in the United States.
“The war against American energy ends on January 20, and we are going to reduce prices at gas stations and in supermarkets,” he stated.
He also spoke about reforms in schools, in reference to the recognition of LGBTQ+ members, particularly trans.
“We are going to protect our children. Because you know what? “Latinos know the difference between a boy and a girl,” Cruz said, sparking applause. “And we’re tired of these idiots making up words like Latinx. Show me someone who says the word Latinx and I’ll show you a rich, white, ‘woke’ idiot.”
Also attending from Trump’s next cabinet was the nominee for Secretary of Health, Robert Kennedy Jr., who highlighted his closeness to Hispanics.
Also attending was Bernie Moreno, new senator from Ohio, who highlighted being the first Colombian-American to achieve a position of that level in Congress.
The fury over Milei
The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, was the person who caused the greatest fury upon his arrival at the republican event organized by the Bienvenido association.
His entry into the event hall caused a commotion among attendees and journalists. Dozens wanted to take a photo with Milei, but his speech did not receive the same attention, although in the end he received applause after expressing his well-known phrase: “Long live freedom, damn it!”
Milei was introduced by Vivek Ramaswamy, who will collaborate with Trump along with Elon Musk on cutting the government’s budget.
“When I ran for president in this country at the age of 37, there was a guy I looked at overseas and said, This guy gets it. He was DOGE before there was DOGE in America. He is the man who understands that freedom is the quality,” Ramaswamy said while introducing Milei.
DOGE is the name of the initiative parallel to the US Government that will suggest which agencies and programs to cut.
