Opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia spoke this Sunday at one of the inaugural galas for the inauguration of the American president-elect, Donald Trump.to ensure “with certainty, that freedom will prevail” in Venezuela and called for unity among the peoples of the Americas so that “democracy is unbreakable and freedoms are strengthened“.
González Urrutia met at a hotel in the US capital, during one of the inaugural balls of Trump’s inauguration, which will be held tomorrow Monday, with the Argentine president, Javier Milei, with whom he greeted warmly.
In a brief speech at this event for donors and Hispanic leaders in the United States, Urrutia said that the “spirit of freedom of Venezuelans is unbreakable” and that thanks to the leadership of the opposition leader María Corina Machado “and the tireless mobilization of millions of Venezuelans, we assume the responsibility of rescuing our democracy“.
González Urrutia said that Nicolás Maduro, who was sworn in on January 10 as president for a new six-year term in power in Venezuela, “tried to turn the July 28 elections into a farce, but we won’t allow it“, thank you “to a physical force that defended victory with irrefutable evidence“.
According to the opposition leader, who is considered the legitimate winner of the July 28 elections by the United States and has been called a “freedom fighter” by Trump, “the regime did not skimp on persecution, torture and crimes against humanity“.
In the opinion of González Urrutia, who was applauded by Trump supporters present in the Mayflower hotel room, “The fight for freedom in Venezuela is not a national fight, but a commitment to the universal values that unite all the peoples of the Americas.“.

“With the support of our international allies and the solidarity of the brothers represented here and with the firm determination of every Venezuelan who does not give up, we can say with certainty that freedom will prevail.“he added.
González Urrutia is one of the Latin American conservative leaders invited by Trump and his team to Monday’s inauguration, which will take place in the Capitol rotunda and not outside the legislative headquarters as is customary due to the cold. EFE
