Claudia Sheinbaum congratulates Donald Trump after taking office as president of the United States
Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, President of Mexico, sent a message of congratulation to Donald Trump, who became president of the United States for the second time in history. In the message, the president also claimed cooperation, dialogue and I respect as fundamental pillars of the relationship between countries.
Hours after the inauguration of donald trump as the 47th president of the United States, and after a meeting with various members of his cabinet, Sheinbaum Pardo used his social networks to send a message to the new president. The congratulations were sent on behalf of the government of Mexico and highlighted the commercial partnership that has been forged between countries.
“On behalf of the Government of Mexico I congratulate Donald Trump for his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States of America. As neighbors and business partners, dialogue, respect and cooperation will always be the symbol of our relationship,” reads the verified account of the social network X, formerly Twitter, of the Mexican president.
It is worth remembering that, after assuming the position of president of the United States, donald trump announced a series of protectionist measures, in line with his speech of the “restoration of America.” In that sense, he announced some policies that could impact Mexico in various ways.
Among the measures announced by trump highlighted the declaration of a national emergency on the southern border of his country, as well as the designation of the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, the restoration of the “Stay in Mexico” program and the initiative to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America .
Given the situation, the Mexican president preferred not to make any statements during her morning press conference on Monday, January 20, 2025, hours before Donald Trump’s inauguration. Despite this, he said he had the certainty of reaching an agreement with the new president:
“Let them (Mexican migrants) know that we are prepared, that we are ready, although, obviously, we have to wait today for what President Trump is going to say at his inauguration. And as we always say: We are certain that we will reach an agreement with the government of the president trumpthat once he takes office, the appropriate channels for communication will be established (…) Mexico does not have to bow its head, feel less, if we are a great country, a cultural power,” he mentioned.
