Part 2 ‘confirms a new character and surprises

Dear Ozianos, there is less and less to go back to the road of yellow tiles. ‘Wicked: Part 2’ (In English, entitled ‘Wicked: For Good’), The Highlight Sequel to the musical starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grandejust launched its official trailer and confirm what the first film already warned: we are not prepared for what is coming in November. The premiere that will also coincide with the representation of the musical in Madrid, planned to start functions in October, will resume split friendships, love triangles and unsolved deaths. And most importantly: it will reveal the true and tragic destiny of the characters we already met in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (Victor Fleming, 1939), finally connecting both stories.
The musical adaptation of the musical with songs by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s libretto, based in turn on the novel ‘Wicked: Memories of a bad witch’ by Gregory Maguire, was one of the absolute tacquillazos of 2024. The continuation of one of the best musicals in the history of cinema, shot at the same time that the first part between the first premieres), will cover the second act of the work, with the arrival of Dorothy to OZ and the confrontation between Elphaba and the same magician. A turning point that the trailer advances with the iconic phrase of the character embodied by Jeff Goldblum While heading to Dorothy and company: “Bring me the broom of the evil wrse of the West.”
With the launch of the trailer, we already have plenty of reasons to wait with (even more) the premiere of ‘Wicked: Part 2’. To begin with, we already know the first changes with respect to the musical. For example, The wedding between Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Fijero (Jonathan Bailey, the prince of ‘Wicked’: “See ‘Los Goonies’ being a child made me think that everything was possible”), which has never been represented on the tables. Although the scene promises to make us fall in love with this couple, some theories argue that it could be a Glinda reverie or fantasy, especially taking into account what happens next. But don’t panic: we will not make spoilers.
Another of the great changes of the Jon M. Chu movie with respect to the musical is the introduction of a new character: Dorothy. Yes, the same and innocent pump left by Kansas after a swirl in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. But Eye: In the musical this character only appears as a shadow. Here, you will still name and surname without announcing, since at no time do we see your face. If ‘Wicked’ narrated what happened before the arrival of Dorothy to the land of Oz, the second part takes up the history of the witches when the young woman arrives, and advances in parallel to the facts we already know. Now, Elphaba is no longer the young marginalized of Shiz, nor Glinda Doña Perfecta, nor Fiyero the arrogant prince (“I have changed,” Elphababa tells her by confessing her loyalty as she gives her the broom). No one is as it was and what will be tested as never before.
Many expected to glimpse in the trailer scenes such as the duet between Cynthia Erito and Jonathan Bailey with ‘As Long As You’re Mine’ (for which, of course, we are not prepared) or the transformations of some characters (we will leave it there). But not. What it does show is perhaps the most powerful in history: the declaration of love between Glinda and Elphaba, a friendship that will grow even more. “You are my only friend”says the evil witch. “And you are the only one that has cared me,” Glinda replies without leaving aside his comic. All this wrapped in a dazzling image: both advancing together for a scenario bathed in pink lights.
Although at the beginning you can listen to Ento interpreting a fragment of a melody that will be unknown to any fan of ‘Wicked’, the trailer has left us without the two new songs – one of Elphaba and another of Glinda – composed of Stephen Schwartz for the film, as confirmed by the director, Jon M. Chu. In return, he has given us a gift with the new harmonies of issues such as ‘No Good Deed’ either ‘For Good’which gives title to this second part, much darker than the first. Of course, neither trace for now of BOQ (Ethan Slater) nor of Nessarose (Marissa Bode), two key characters whose absence revives the big question since this sequel was announced: will Jon M. Chu keep the end of the original musical?
‘Wicked: Part 2’ The premiere is planned November 21, 2025.
Trapped between music and cinema, from Vigo arrived in Madrid to study journalism and audiovisual communication at the Carlos III University. Legend has it that classes preferred to skip to go to some premiere although, if you ask, deny it.
He came to the wording of frames as a scholarship in practices, after entering the musical and film journalism collaborating in media such as Milana magazine. He has interviewed personalities such as Jonás Trueba or Irene school and his most precious good is a guitar spike. Live in love with Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Nora Ephron. If you do not find it, it will be watching a Kurosawa movie. It doesn’t matter when you read this.
