Takashi Iizuka of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds talks about crossover characters like Steve de Minecraft and how the travel rings change everything

In addition to release new playability, Takashi Iizuka, head of the Sonic Team, accompanied us in Ign Live to share more about Sonic Racing: Crossworlds and why this is a great game of Karts Crossover races that you should play.
Just one day after the great presentation of Sonic Racing: Crossworld at the Summer Game Fest, it was announced that Hatsune Miku, Iciban Kasuga from Like a Dragon, Joker of Person 5 and Steve, Alex and Creeper of Minecraft will be invited characters. Iizuka reflected on how the selection process of the characters that will join the fun was.
“We wanted to make sure that the second round was full of surprises, since you would go into a different world that you didn’t even believe possible,” Iizuka said. “So, thinking about how to make it really fun and exciting, we knew that it would be great to visit some worlds of the SEGA IP, but we also wanted to visit other IP worlds and surprise people with that second round. When thinking about which worlds they would be fun to explore, we thought that Minecraft and their characters could be very fun.”
For those who do not know, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds has a very interesting three laps that begins with a quite standard first round. However, the corridor that is first can choose a new world for which everyone will compete through Travel Rings.
“The three -round formula is really good for the pilots,” Iizuka said. “It is very easy to understand, and we wanted to give it a novel and original touch so that not only runs through the same place again and again. Hence the idea of Travel Ring, which takes you to a new and unknown place in that second round. And that is not all, since we wanted to maintain the fresh and funny race, so we also add some surprises for the third round.”
Then, we went to the objects, and Iizuka said that he loved that Sonic Racing: Crossworlds paid tribute to the Sonic Racing games with the incorporation of the fist object rocket and Team Sonic Racing with WISP. However, he admitted that his favorite object of this new game is the Monster Truck enhancer, which allows you to turn your vehicle into a Monster Truck and run over all those in front of you.
