The Colombian pop star, Shakira, does not need a presentation. He has illuminated global scenarios with his music for more than three decades. However, far from brightness and fame, the 48 -year -old artist does not lose sight of a cause that carries in the heart: the reality facing millions of immigrants in the United States.

In a recent interview with the British chain BBC, published on June 12, the interpreter of “Anthology” spoke honestly about her own experiences as an immigrant and expressed concern about policies that generate fear among vulnerable communities.

“I was 19 when I arrived in the United States looking for a better future, like so many Colombians who emigrate with dreams and sacrifices,” he recalled. “At that time, I was accompanied by synonyms and translation dictionaries. There was no Google or artificial intelligence to help … it was a vacuum leap.”

Known to combine Latin rhythms with bilingual letters, Shakira also approached the current political climate, marked by migratory operations intensified under the administration of President Donald Trump.

“For many, that means living with constant fear. And it is painful to witness it,” said the singer, echoing the concerns that intensified this month after raids executed in Los Angeles by ICE agents (immigration and customs control).

The operations, part of a federal directive to locate people without legal status, caused protests in various Angelinos neighborhoods, especially those with a high Latin population.

In parallel, the Government activated the mobilization of 4,000 elements of the National Guard of California and 700 Marine Infants, which generated legal demands and strong criticism from state leaders, who accused Trump of climbing social tensions.

‘We must stay together’

Shakira, who has participated in multiple social campaigns since its foundation Barefootmade an urgent call to solidarity.

“Now more than ever we have to unite and raise our voice. A country can change its immigration laws, but you should never lose humanity in your treatment towards people,” he said.

It is not the first time that the artist shows her public support for immigrants. During the delivery 67 of the Grammy Awards in February, upon receiving the award for best Latin Pop album, Shakira dedicated recognition to the migrant community.

“This award is for all my immigrant brothers and sisters. They are valuable, they are loved, and I will always fight with you,” said excitedly in front of the public.

Beyond the stage

In a political moment marked by divisions and raids, Shakira’s voice resonates with a force that transcends the musical. She represents millions of migrants who, as she decades ago, crossed borders driven by hope.

And although her path led her to conquer the world, her words today are an anchor of empathy: “Let’s not forget that behind each migrant history there are dreams, families and future. And that future deserves to be defended.”
