“It means living with constant fear”: Shakira reflects on migratory raids in the United States

The Colombian singer Shakira, who continues with her tour ‘women no longer cry World Tour’ in North America, referred to the immigration situation in the United States.

In the midst of an interview with the BBC, the artist reflected on the changes she has experienced since she arrived in Miami when she was a teenager, in the mid -90s, to continue her musical career.

In the conversation, the interpreter of “Anthology” was sincere about her experience as an immigrant and the concern generated by the new migratory policies imposed by Trump.

“I was 19 when I arrived in the United States looking for a better future, like so many Colombians who migrate with dreams and sacrifices. At that time, I was accompanied by synonyms and translation dictionaries. There was no Google or artificial intelligence to help. It was a vacuum leap,” he recalled.

“Then I fond of poetry and began to read some of Leonard Cohen, Walt Whitman and Bob Dylan, trying to understand how English works in song composition. I think that’s how I became good in this“He added.

Shakira also approached the challenges facing the Latin community after Trump’s return to the White House. “Being immigrant in the United States today means living with constant fear. And it is painful to see it,” he said.

Given the difficult situation, Shakira made an urgent call to solidarity and the importance of continuing to raise his voice.

“Now, more than ever, we have to remain united. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment towards all people must always be human, he reflected.
