Shakira lives with “constant fear” for being an immigrant in the United States

After more than ten years living in Barcelona with the one who believed he was the man of his life, Shakira made his bags and moved to Miami in April 2023. They took their two children, Catalans, the result of their relationship with former soccer player Gerard Piqué. The Colombian artist has joined the wave of critical voices with Donald Trump’s policies against migrants.
The 48 -year -old singer said he lives with “constant fear” as an immigrant in the United States. During an interview with BBC News, Shakira has strongly criticized Trump’s way to play. “I was only 19 when I moved to the United States, like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country in search of a better future,” he began by recounting. And to the question of how it feels to be immigrant in that country, he replied: “It means living with constant fear, and it is painful to see it.”

The singer encouraged the migrant community to defend her rights and stay strong at adversity, because “now, more than ever, we have to remain united,” he said. “We have to raise our voice and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be human. Immigrants are not a threat, they are the soul of this country. Many of my fans, friends and colleagues are part of this brave and hardworking community. Today more than ever we must raise their voice for them.”
It is not the first time that Shakira raises La Voz in support of the migrant community, because he already did it in the last edition of the Grammy, in which she was awarded in the category of Best Latin Pop Album. “I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country,” he said in his speech, adding that “always” would fight for them.

The night before the interview, Shakira had to cancel the concert he was going to give in San Antonio, Texas, with tickets exhausted for weeks. A ruling in the structure of the stage forced to cancel in extremis the show in the Alamodome, which was already full of people to enjoy the concert. Also, the show that had planned for June 20 at the Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles has had to be reprogrammed due to the growing social tension caused by mass migratory raids in the city and will be held on August 4. As confirmed by the organizers of the event and Ticketmaster, “fans who had already acquired tickets can use them for the new date without the need to make changes.”

The compatriot of Shakira Karol G has also joined the critical voices with the indiscriminate raids of the ICE, the American anti -immigration service. “I don’t know how to shut up when something hurts. What madness wake up these days and see everything that is happening,” he wrote on Instagram. “I am Latin, and what is happening with my community is deeply painful. Being Latin should not generate rejection or fear; I should inspire pride and respect. Latinos are blessing, persistent people, workers, dreamy!
