In the midst of their successful tour, women no longer cry World Tour, Colombian singer Shakira has dedicated a space to reflect on the difficult situation that immigrants face in the United States, especially after the hardening of migration policies promoted by President Donald Trump.

During a recent interview with the BBC, the artist – who currently resides in Miami – shared her own experiences as an immigrant in the country since she arrived with only 19 years. “I was looking for a better future, like so many Colombians who emigrate with dreams and sacrifices,” he recalled. “At that time, I was accompanied by synonyms and translation dictionaries. There was no Google or artificial intelligence to help. It was a vacuum leap.”

In addition to sharing its artistic and personal tour, Shakira expressed a deep concern about the current conditions in which the Latin community lives in the United States. “Being immigrant today means living with constant fear. And it is painful to see it,” he said.

The artist not only alluded to the climate of insecurity generated by raids and restrictive measures, but also called for empathy, the unity and resistance from the collective voice: “Now, more than ever, we have to remain united. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment towards all people must always be human.”

His testimony connects with thousands of Latin American families living with fear of possible deportations or discrimination. Aware of its scope as a public figure, Shakira has repeatedly reiterated its commitment to social causes, especially those related to childhood, education and the rights of migrants.

While their message resonates in the media, the tour of women no longer cry continues touring North America. After passing through cities such as Charlotte, Montreal, Detroit and Toronto, the Colombian will continue with presentations in other cities in the United States and Canada until the end of June.

The tour, which started in February in Latin America, has led the artist for emblematic scenarios of Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Colombia. In each presentation, Shakira has mixed its classic repertoire with the most recent issues, while shared with the public empowerment and solidarity messages.

At a time when immigration policy is again in the center of the debate in the United States, voices such as Shakira join a growing choir of artists and intellectuals who claim a more dignified and human treatment for whom, like her in her youth, they bet on a new start from home.
