Hytale is canceled, the RPG inspired by Minecraft financed by Riot Games

Hytale, a video game inspired by Minecraft and with RPG elements that had been developing for almost 10 years, has been canceled. Its developer, Hypixel Studios, will also cease its operations.
Hytale was Hypixel’s attempt to combine the mini -games of his popular homonymous Minecraft server – which has been visited by more than 18 million people since 2013 – with a Sandbox experience and RPG touches, but not within Minecraft but built from scratch. The project has generated expectation during this time, to the point that Riot Games, developer of League of Legends, invested millions in it and ended up buying Hypixel in 2020.
Hypixel announced the “difficult news” in a statement on its website. “This is not the result that none of us – no Hypixel or Riot,” we wanted. But, after years of advancing, adapting and exploring all possible paths, we were clear that we could not give Hytal life in a way that really was up to it. ”

“Developing a game is brutally difficult, especially when you try to build something original that connects with a creative and passionate community,” the statement continued. “Over time, as our vision evolved and the genre matured around us, the bar continued to rise. Our technical ambitions became more complex, and even after an important restart of the game of the game, the team discovered that Hytale was not as advanced as he needed to be.”
“We consider reducing the scope, adjusting the deadlines and finding new approaches to move on. But each of those options would have meant compromising what made Hytale special from the beginning. It would not have been the game that we set out to create. And it would not have been the game you deserve.”
Hypixel’s statements also Ugiere that they tried to “see if there were investors or buyers who could help continue with Hytale”, but after Riot stop financed the project, they did not find many more options. The Minecraft server, on the other hand, will remain active.
