Hundreds of citizens left this Sunday in a new migrant caravan which has Mexico City as its first point, and which seeks to reach the United States, a week after the arrival to power of Donald Trump, who will assume the presidency on January 20 and has threatened that he will carry out a mass deportation of migrants .
This caravan is made up of citizens of Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Honduras, Salvador, Guatemala and Haitiamong others
Activist Luis Rey García Villagrán, representative of the Center for Human Dignification, warned Donald Trump that, “For every plane sent to Tapachula, a migrant caravan will leave and for every offense he makes to Mexicans, he will bless himself” and for every person he deports, 10 will enter the United States.
«For every action of xenophobia or racism of the empire, we Mexicans are going to respond with blessings, the Latin people, the brothers of Venezuela, the Cubans, Peruvians, Colombians, Nicaraguans and Hondurans, all of us, are working people who have kept “The United States as an economic force, don’t worry about Trump, all working people go to the United States,” said the activist.
Migrants hope to arrive despite Trump
Dalisha, a migrant from Panama who is part of the caravan, traveling with a group of six people and two minors, decided to cross Mexico on foot with the intention of being able to reach the United States to work and have better well-being.
«There are no jobs in PanamaThere is violence, there is no future for the children even though there is the Panama Canal, but that is not ours, it is the government’s; We must work, we cry and fight, (we tell Trump) that no one is powerful, he can take all the possession he wants, if God says that I am going to go to work (in the United States) to help my family », he told EFE.
Gorman Almeida, a migrant from Venezuela, trusts and hopes that, with the arrival of Trump, pressure will be put on “to the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro”who was sworn in as president last Friday, because he said that in his country “human rights are violated.”
“The situation in the country is getting worse every day, it is no secret to anyone that the Maduro regime is taking prisoners out of prisons to make them uniform and passing them off as state officials to repress, torture, extort and even for what we fight today, for the freedom of Venezuela, for what Venezuela is running out of people,” he told EFE.
For his part, Adrián Duarte, who is part of the first caravan that left San Pedro Sula on January 7 with hundreds of compatriots who have arrived in Mexico to go to the United States, recalled that everyone seeks a better quality of life and they flee from insecurity, violence and lack of employment.
«That is the fear that (Trump) is causing, that has nothing to do with us, each head is a world, we are moving forward, I am not afraid of deportations You can come back to me 10 times and I’ll get back in“Duarte said and added that in Honduras “drug trafficking is tough.”
Last week, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, proposed that this January there be a meeting between the foreign ministers of Latin America to address the challenges of migration before Trump’s arrival to the White House.
Sheinbaum, who has said she is prepared to receive the deported Mexicans, has reiterated “the insistence to the United States that repatriation be done to the different countries of origin,” instead of expelling them all to Mexico.
