“We are talking about criminals”: Trump defends himself after criticism about the treatment of deportees

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke about criticism of the treatment of deportees: “We are talking about criminals, gang members, murderers.”

They rebuked us because they were chained on the plane (…) What do you think of being the pilot of the plane with 300 people back? Murderers, drug traffickers, criminals of some kind, mafia or gang members (…) These pilots were running a risk.

This matter was one of the questions that were done in Brazil. Migrants assured that They were treated denigrating in the tour, such as lack of food and water, along with alleged abuse of authority and handcuff.

What happened to the deportees who arrived in Brazil?

The situation was such that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “The indiscriminate use of wives and chains violates the terms of the US agreement, which foresees the dignified, respectful and human treatment of the returnees. ”

Due to this situation and the state of the aircraft, the Brazilian authorities did not authorize the flight to continue its journey from Manaos, where it stopped.

The deportees stayed and hours later took a flight from the Air Force to Belo Horizonte, capital of Minas Gerais.

The Brazilian government considers unacceptable that the agreed conditions with the US government are not respected. Brazil agreed to make repatriation flights, as of 2018, to shorten the time of permanence of these nationals in North American detention centers, due to irregular immigration and without the possibility of appeal.

Arrival of deportees to Colombia

The issue of deportees not only echoed in Brazil. After authorization, The Colombian government at the head of President Gustavo Petro changed the decision and did not allow the entry of two planes.

The situation led to a rifirrafe of both leaders, as well as the imposition of sanctions by the United States (such as increase in tariffs). Likewise, letters were taken in the matter on visa applications.

Clearly, the situation generated controversy. Hours later, an agreement was reached, which froze the sanctions. The resumption of the visa would depend on the arrival of the deportees. Finally, the Air Force ordered two airplanes to bring them.
