USAID programs will be the topic of conversation between Abinader and Marco Rubio

President Luis Abinader said that the revision of the programs of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which were suspended for a review by the administration of Donald Trump, will be one of the issues that will be discussed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during his visit to the country.

“There are some programs that affect the Dominican Republic and also concern some that affect Haiti in terms of food. What they have talked about is a suspension to review, in those cases those that are justified, they will approve it and in the cases that refers to the Dominican Republic, we will be taking the measures of place, ”said Abinader.

When talking with the media, the president said that the aid he receives from that organization is not “an amount that the Dominican Republic cannot correct.”

Rubio, who just on Monday assured that he was appointed as the new interim chief of the USAID, will arrive at the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, February 5.

The USAID, an independent entity created by an American Congress Law, has a budget of 42.8 billion dollars allocated to humanitarian aid and development assistance worldwide.

It is remembered that as part of one of his first decisions after returning to the White House on January 20, Trump froze Washington’s aid to other countries for three months while checking if that expense responds to the interests of the country.
