Maduro threatens to invade Puerto Rico with troops from Brazil and the island’s governor sent a letter to Trump asking him to defend national security
This Monday, the leader of the Venezuelan regime, Nicolás Maduro, who just three days ago was illegitimately sworn in to screw himself into power, released some controversial statements in which he spoke about Puerto Rico.
According to Maduro, who spoke at the closing of the so-called “International Anti-Fascist Festival”, he has a plan to invade the island.
Referring to Donald Trump’s controversial intentions to take control of the Panama Canal, Greenland and Canada, Maduro said he is going to “liberate” the unincorporated territory that belongs to the United States.
“Just as in the north they have a colonization agenda, we have a liberation agenda,” he said.
“And the agenda was written for us by Simón Bolívar. Freedom in Puerto Rico is pending and we will achieve it with the troops of Brazil. And Abreu De Lima will go to the front to liberate Puerto Rico. What do you think?” he added.
These controversial words were not taken well in the Caribbean country, which provoked an immediate response from the Puerto Rican governor. Jenniffer González, who sent a letter to President-elect Trump accusing Maduro of threatening to invade her country.
“Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro called to invade Puerto Rico, which constitutes an open threat to the United States and our national security,” he said.
“I sent a letter to President Donald Trump trusting that his administration will respond quickly and make it clear to the Maduro narco regime that the United States will protect American lives and sovereignty and will not bow to petty and murderous thugs,” he added.
The letter ends with a strong appeal from the governor to the elected president: “I look forward to engaging in important discussions about how to improve Puerto Rico’s role in national security. and take strong measures against the growing presence of adversaries in the region.”
The letter was copied to Marco Rubio, nominated as Secretary of State by Trump, and Mike Waltz, nominated as National Security Advisor.
