They solve ten years later the mystery of the body of Somiedo with malformations and imprison their two brothers for abandoning it: a sad story
The mystery of the man found dead in Somiedo is already a resolved case. Just a few weeks after ten years of the discovery of the lifeless body of a male with multiple malformations between some matojos, very close to the viewpoint of the Rebeco, near the road between Pola and El Puerto, in January 2015, it has been possible to identify to the deceased. An investigation carried out by the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the National Police of Gijón has allowed to clarify this media case and detain the two brothers of this individual, a man and a woman, who got rid of the body without Alert anyone to continue charging the financial aid they perceived for their total disability. Both involved, EJC and EJC, are already in the Penitentiary Center of Asturias by court order.
The body of this individual was found by hikers in January 2015 at kilometer 50 of the AS-227. It appeared in the weed, but not excessively hidden. He was naked, with signs of malnutrition, and without a leg, presumably due to the action of some wild animal.
From the first moment the death was ruled out would have been violent. This was confirmed by the autopsy. A few meters from the body, a blanket appeared, whose design was learned that only many years ago in a Gijón store and another in Burgos. Then began an investigation to clarify who that man of just 35 kilos, 1.35 meters high and an age that could range between 45 and 60 years. He did not carry identification. Neither their footprints nor their DNA showed positive results and the investigations for locations close to the finding did not give any results. Time passed and ended up knowing the case as “the mystery of the man of Somiedo.” Also from Babia, the Leonese town close to the place where the body was found. But the man was Gijon. Like his two brothers.
The two arrested, as New Spain has learned, stayed in the care of their brother when the parents died. This man died from natural causes, possibly a heart attack. But as an important pension charged (which was around one thousand euros), because it had a complete inability, the brothers chose not to alert anyone of their death and take it from Gijón, where he lived, to the port of Somiedo to get rid of the body.
For a decade they have continued charging money, mocking all social services controls. Often, when the inspectors visited them, they said that their brother was on a trip, sick or with family members. In addition, both often changed home – always in the Council of Gijón and Rental – to hinder workers’ tracking.
This situation motivated that a week ago a complaint was filed from the competent authority at the El Natahoyo police station. Upon entering as disappearance, because the Gijonés who perceived the subsidy was not located, the Udev team was in charge of the investigations. His family was located, the two brothers, who offered evasive again. The work continued, an order of entry and registration of the house was achieved, but it was found that the couple had already vanished again.
The agents began investigating the whereabouts of these two people and located them in a lodging in a town in the province of Guipúzcoa. From the UDEV, the Ertzaintza was given and the arrest was made last Wednesday. They were immediately transferred to the El Natahoyo police station.
The deceased’s sister ended up confessing to the agents who her brother was and how they had left him in Somiedo when she died for natural causes to continue charging the money she perceived for her total disability. Initially, they are attributed to the crimes of brokenness of the duty of custody and possible illegal detention. After giving a statement in the judicial headquarters – the case is carried by the Court of Instruction number 4 – the entry into prison was decreed, communicated and without bail of these two people who ten years ago got rid of the mountain of the body of their older brother.
“The thin man”, a case of the most media in Asturias
Countless questions and very few answers. Until now. The resolution of the man of Somiedo, an issue that came to be baptized in the argot of the black chronicle as the case of “the thin man”, ends almost ten years of questions. The location of the corpse by two hikers of León in January 2015 began a very long investigation by the Civil Guard that, despite the enormous efforts of the armed institute, never finished paying off. It was tried to search all of Spain and part of the foreigner that could solve a mystery that, over the years, only made growing and grow. The Benemérita came to rule out very soon that the person located at the height of kilometer 50 of the AS-227 corresponded to any of those in the disappeared databases in Asturias, nor in León, the closest province to the scene. The investigation did not stay there and more steps were taken.
The Civil Guard came to send the profile of the body to all the commands of Spain to try to obtain some clue. There was also no result. The agents never ceased in their efforts. They removed the entire council and part of the neighboring towns. They searched in civil records, birth and death games, health centers and even asked midwives in the area to see if they could find some light that guided them. The Somedans, on the other hand, pointed from the first moment that the deceased could not be a neighbor of the area. They didn’t miss anyone. All the efforts of the researchers were in vain. And the case of the “thin man”, due to the low weight of the body, was remaining on the shelf of the unresolved cases of Asturias and Spain. The matter became very media. Several media resumed the story as the years went by. The story had all the ingredients to attract media attention. Even the journalist íker Jiménez came to dedicate in June 2018 a few minutes in his television program “Fourth Millennium”.
