Kenner’s police, Louisiana, arrested a woman while investigating the case of Adan Manzano, a journalist from Telemundo Kansas City sent to Louisiana to cover the Super Bowl this Sunday and who was found dead in her hotel room on Wednesday.
Kenner’s Chief of Police, Keith A. Conley, said at a press conference that detectives who arrived at the scene found that the journalist lacked the cell phone and one of his credit cards.
Subsequently, when reviewing surveillance camera videos, they saw that the reporter had reached his room in the early hours of Wednesday and that, later, a woman entered the place. She left around 6 am and did not see Manzano again. The journalist was found dead hours later, Conley reported.
With those tracks and other indications, the police determined that the missing credit card had been used in several New Orleans stores, and a person was identified as suspicious, the official added.
After getting an arrest warrant, the police found the woman in New Orleans and arrested her this Thursday night. Police identified her as Danette Colbert.
When making a search at home, the police found the cell phone and Manzano credit card, Conley said.
During the conference, the police chief said he would not speculate about the reason for the death of the journalist.
Until Friday, Colbert has been accused of crimes such as fraud and robbery, said the police chief, who added that that could change soon, when the coroner deliver the results of the journalist’s autopsy.
“As soon as the coroner ends with his findings and classifies it as homicide or any other type of death to which the evidence takes it, then those charges could be updated,” Conley said.
Colbert was transferred from New Orleans to Kenner this Friday and remains detained, Kenner’s deputy police chief, Mark McCormick, informed CNN on Friday.
CNN tries to find out if the detainee has legal representation.
Manzano was a reporter and sports presenter of Telemundo Kansas City and was in the city to cover the Super Bowl, the station reported in a statement.
“Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star, whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work. We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports and the contributions he made to the local community, ”said Telemundo Kansas City.
The station added that it collaborates with the authorities during the investigation.
