The crusade against immigration in Florida

By virtue of this agreement with DHS, the Florida road patrol members may also stop undocumented people who reach this southern state by sea and deliver them to the customs immigration and control service (ICE, in English).

Desantis explained that being an agreement with the US president’s government, Donald Trump, announced this Friday does not require approval by the state legislature, with whom the governor maintains a struggle.

The State Congress has approved in an extraordinary session convened by Desantis a migratory project that ignores proposals made by the governor, who has replicated that he plans to veto the initiative once he reaches his desk for his signature.

The fight against irregular immigration has been one of Desantis’s battle horses, especially when he was an aspiring republican nomination for the presidential elections of 2024, from which he retired before the progress of the current President Trump.

Since then and to date he has strongly criticized what he describes as “open border policy”, in force during the mandate of former president Joe Biden (2021-2025).
