ONTARIO.- Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly does not rule out any countermeasures when it comes to confronting US President-elect Donald Trump, in particular his threat to impose heavy tariffs on Canadian imports, according to he stated in an interview with CTV News.
Joly stressed that cutting energy exports to the US in response to these tariff threats would not be ruled out. “What I can tell you is that everything is on the table,” said the chancellor when asked specifically about whether the Government is preparing to cut off energy exports south of the border.
Previously, CTV News confirmed that Canadian officials are preparing a list of U.S. products — including steel, ceramics such as toilets and sinks, and Florida orange juice — that could be subject to retaliatory tariffs in response to Trump’s threat.
In November, Trump promised to introduce radical tariffs on all products from Mexico, Canada and China on his first day in office, countries he accuses of smuggling drugs to the US. Tariffs on Canadian products would be 25%. he detailed.
