The president of the USA, Donald Trump, announced in an interview published on Saturday he has spoken with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
“He wants people to stop dying,” Trump told New York Post.
It was not clear immediately when the leaders spoke or if they had spoken since Trump took office in January, or how many times. CNN communicated with the National Security Council to obtain clarification.
Trump said in the interview that “better not to say” how many times he had spoken with Putin, but promoted a “good relationship” with his Russian counterpart.
The president of Undios states expressed his hope that Putin’s war in Ukraine, which approaches his third anniversary, ends “quickly.” He had previously promised to put an end to the conflict in 24 hours after his inauguration.
“I hope it’s fast. Every day people die. This war is terrible in Ukraine. I want to end this damn thing, ”he told New York Post.
Trump said earlier this week that the conversations to end the war had “achieved many progress.”
During the interview, which took place while Trump was traveling aboard the Air Force One to Florida on Friday, the president ordered his national security advisor, Mike Waltz, to “start these meetings.”

On Friday, the president told reporters that “probably” will meet with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, next week and hinted that he also planned to talk to Putin.
“I will probably meet with President Zelensky next week and I will probably talk to President Putin,” Trump said.
Zelensky is expected to lead the Ukraine Delegation at the Munich Security Conference, which will also be attended by the United States Vice President J. D, Vance, and the special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, but not Trump.
Earlier this week, Trump said he wants to ensure access to the supply of rare land minerals of Ukraine in exchange for continuous US assistance to the country.

Amid a growing contact between the two leaders, a high Russian legislator told state media that “advanced” preparations were being made for a meeting, possibly earlier this month.
