‘A Minecraft movie’ is already 2025 Hollywood’s highest grossing premiere

NEW YORK.- After just two weeks in cinemas, “to Minecraft Movie” is already Hollywood’s highest premiere in 2025.
After his successful premiere, the adaptation of the Warner Bros. video game collected 80.6 million dollars at the box office in his second weekend, according to estimates of the study released on Sunday. Worldwide, rapidly exceeded 550 million dollars.
After doubling the expectations in his world debut of 300 million dollars, “a Minecraft movie” continued to attract the public as no other film this year. The film, directed by Jared HESS and starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, fell 50% in their second exhibition in cinemas in the United States and Canada, an impressive fall after such a successful debut.
Although critics harshly criticized the film (46 percent “fresh” in Rotten Tomatoes) and the public’s qualifications were merely good (a “B+” in Cinemascore), “to Minecraft Movie” clung to movie viewers who come in mass to see adaptations of great budget video games.
“A Minecraft film”, a co -production of 150 million dollars between Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, has helped, at least for now, to revitalize movie theaters after a lousy start of the year. The total sale of tickets doubled that of the same weekend of 2024, according to Comscore. Before “a Minecraft movie”, box office income was 11 percent lower than last year, but now they have practically matched. (According to Comscore, the collection of 2025 remains 31 percent lower than that of 2019).
None of the new premieres of the weekend – “The King of Kings” by Angel Studios, “The Amateur” by Walt Disney Co., “Drop” by Universal Pictures or “Warfare” of A24 – approached to challenge “Minecraft”, but several films exceeded expectations.
“The King of Kings”, an animated story about the life of Jesus addressed to the Christian public, was in second place with $ 19.1 million raised in 3,200 rooms. The film, freely based on a children’s book by Charles Dickens, has a stellar cast of voices headed by Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh and Uma Thurman.
With an enviable qualification of “A+” in Cinemascore by the public, “The King of Kings” is emerging to succeed the week before Easter. The third part of the Fathom Entertainment television series, “the chosen one: the last dinner”, also sought to attract the Christian public. It premiered with 6.2 million dollars in 2296 cinemas.
“The amateur”, a production of the twentieth century starring Rami Malek as a CIA cryptographer who chases his wife’s murderers, debuted with 15 million dollars in the United States, in addition to another 17.2 million abroad. Criticism considered that this revenge thriller was an unattractive star vehicle for Malek, who also produced it. “The amateur” cost 60 million dollars.
“Warfare”, the sequel to “Civil War” (2024), directed by Alex Garland, premiered with 8.3 million dollars at the box office in 2670 rooms. Garland co -written and co -directed the premiere of A24 with the veteran of the Iraq War Ray Mendoza, who based the film on a mission that he and his companions Seal de la Marina undertook in 2006 during the war. “Warfare”, whose production cost about 20 million dollars, was praised by critics as an exceptionally realistic portrait of combat.
“Drop”, the last Blumhouse Productions thriller, debuted with 7.5 million dollars in 3,085 rooms. Christopher Landon’s film stars Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”), who plays a single widowed mother on her first date (Brandon Sklennar) and is terrified by a stranger through messages on her phone. “Drop”, which premiered on SXSW, cost less than 10 million dollars.
