Medellín is ready for a weekend full of music, culture and great economic expectations with Shakira’s concerts, scheduled for April 12 and 13, 2025 at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.

The logistics of the event has required a series of road closures, adjustments in public transport and security measures to guarantee the success of this showwhich promises to gather thousands of local fans and tourists.

According to local authorities, more than 69,000 people are expected to attend concerts, of which about 35,000 will be national and international tourists.

This flow of visitors could generate an estimated economic impact in eleven million dollars, according to José Alejandro González, Secretary of Tourism of Medellín, to Caracol news. In addition, the event coincides with Holy Week, which increases the influx of people in the city.

The Medellín Mobility Secretariat explained that road closures in the immediate vicinity of the stadium began on Friday, April 11 at 6:00 am and will run until Monday, April 14 at 10:00 am Restrictions include:

  • Carrera 74 (Eastern Calzada), between streets 48 and 50: closed from April 11 at 6:00 am until April 14 at 10:00 am
  • Carrera 74 (western road), between streets 48 and 50: closed from 10:00 pm on Saturday, April 12 to 3:00 am on Sunday, April 13.
  • 48th Street, between races 70 and 73: closed from 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 12 until 4:00 am on Sunday, April 13.

The Medellín Metro also announced adjustments in its operation to facilitate the mobility of the concert attendees. As explained by Jaime Andrés Ortiz, social manager and subway customer service, the commercial service will be extended in lines A and B during the nights of Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13.

The usual schedule will end at 11:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 pm on Sunday, But a special operation will be enabled from 12:30 am to 1:50 am, with exclusive income by the Stadium Station. The outputs will be allowed only in the Bello, Acevedo, Caribbean, San Antonio, Poblado, Aguacatala, Envigado, La Estrella and San Javier stations.

Ortiz recommended that users carry their recharged means of payment to expedite income and maintain the Metro culture during displacements. This measure seeks to avoid congestions and guarantee a fluid experience for the attendees: “We invite travelers to live the Metro culture within our system and to arrive with their recharged means of payment to facilitate admission.”

The singer’s return to Medellín not only represents a cultural event of great magnitude, but also an opportunity to boost the local economy. Previous experiences indicate that events of this nature generate increases in sales of bars, discos and night establishments, with increases ranging between 10 % and 30 %.

Regarding security, Manuel Villa Mejía, Secretary of Security of Medellín, said that a Metropolitan Police team will be deployed to guarantee public order during concerts and activities of Holy Week. In addition, there will be the support of firefighters and health personnel to attend any eventuality.

The event, which will be attended by more than 6,000 people working in logistics, promises to be one of the most prominent of the year in Medellín. Gabriel García, director of the Páramo company, said that this new date is an opportunity to “get rid of” the Paisa public that the show expected.
