British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been accused of sexual violation and aggression, the British Royal Prosecutor’s Office reported Friday.
The actor of Forgetting Sarah Marshall He was accused of two positions of rape, attack on modesty and two positions of sexual aggression, said prosecutor Jaswant Narkal.
“These charges are related to unrealized crimes between 1999 and 2005, which involve four women,” added Narkal.
Brand has previously denied the accusations, stating that all its relationships have been agreed.
“Women who have filed complaints continue to receive support from agents with special training,” said the main investigator of the case against Brand, detective Andy Furphy, of the Metropolitan Police.
Furphy added that the investigation was still open and that the detectives asked “any person affected by this case, or that has information, to present and talk to the police.”
The charges arrive after an investigation that began in September 2023, after The Sunday Times and the British Channel 4 chain reported about accusations that Brand had sexually and emotionally abused four women.
Brand was accused of rape, sexual aggression and emotional abuse by four women. One of them declared to be 16 years old (the age of consent in the United Kingdom) and assured that Brand was 30 when they initiated a relationship that included sexual abuse and aggression.
In a video on their social networks before the publication of the accusations and the program of Channel 4 entitled Russell Brand: In Plain SightThe comedian, denied the allegations by qualifying them as “very serious.”
Brand, who was married to the pop star Katy Perry, has deepened his link with the political right, appearing last September on stage next to Tucker Carlson during the tour of this personality of the conservative media.
Brand has also become Christianity in recent years and was seen in the National Republican Convention in July.
The comedian will appear before the Westminster Magistrates in London on May 2.
