Nine Cuban migrants were detained this Tuesday by the US Border Patrol after arriving ashore on a makeshift boat in Key West, Florida.
The capture was carried out with the collaboration of local authorities, who assisted in the operation, the entity said in a statement from X.
According to Border Patrol reports, the migrants will be processed and, under current regulations, will face possible deportation to Cuba.

“Today, nine Cuban migrants were taken into Border Patrol custody after arriving ashore on an artisanal boat in Key West,” wrote Jeffrey Dinise, head of the Border Patrol in the area.
The US government has maintained its policy of detention and deportation for migrants attempting to enter the country illegally, although the context of Cuban migration remains a constant challenge for US authorities.

On Thursday the Coast Guard repatriated 20 rafters and two dogs after intercepting their attempted illegal migration at sea, as part of Operation Vigilant Sentry at the end of 2024.
The Cuban Ministry of the Interior (Minint) said then that it was the second repatriation operation of the year. The first operation of 2024 was carried out by the Bahamas on January 4 when 19 rafters returned to the island.
