Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange, shared in an emotional interview her recent fight against breast cancer, a diagnosis that took her by surprise despite her healthy habits.
Knowles, 70, confessed that during the Covid-19 pandemic he omitted his annual mammography and, when he resumed it in 2023, the doctors detected two tumors in his left bosom: one benign and another malignant in stage 1. “I thought it was the earliest phase, but my sister corrected me: ‘No, there is a zero stage,” Fortunately, cancer was slowly growth and had not expanded.
After undergoing a lumpectomy (tumor removal), her family accompanied her at all times. “Everyone appeared in the hospital. They sang ‘Walk with me’ and entered the operating room feeling that God protected me,” he recalled. In his book “Matriarch”, he details how Beyoncé assumed the news with determination, while Solange assured him: “Mom, we will take care of this.”
Knowles, who today declares cancer, decided to share his experience to raise awareness about the importance of regular checks. “As women, sometimes we postpone our health. But a time mammogram can save your life,” he said.
Now, with a new perspective, the designer and businesswoman seeks to inspire other people: “What scares me the most is not living every day to the fullest.”
