“Bering Air staff is working hard to collect details, obtain emergency assistance, search and rescue,” Olson told the AP agency. In addition, the Nome Volunteer Fire Department gave a statement in which he explained that they were conducting a land search from Nome to White Mountain.
However, that work was difficult due to the climatic conditions of the area. “Due to weather and visibility, we are limited in the air search at this time,” added the firefighters. They also asked the population not to perform their own searches because it represents a great risk for the danger of the weather.

The National Guard and the Police were also involved in the search operation. A Coast Guard plane was expected to look for the last registered position of the aircraft. So far, the names of the passengers had not been informed.
Caravan is one of the few options to travel anywhere in Rural Alaska, especially in winter times. Unalakleet is in western Alaska, about 240 kilometers southeast of Nome and 640 kilometers northeast of Anchorage. It has approximately 690 inhabitants.
