Alejandro Sanz He is in a new moment of his life. More reflective, freer and more emotional, the Spanish singer -songwriter launches And now what?an EP that marks an intimate, powerful and very personal return. Through six songs – some melancholic, other luminous ones – the artist allows us to explore new sound textures and meet old musical alliances, such as that of Shakirain the theme “Kiss me”, twenty years after the global success “Torture”.
“The questions have some mysterious, romantic, beautiful,” he said in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in Spanish. “It’s like a precipice question, overlooking the sea.”
With more than three decades of career, 4 Grammy awards and 22 Latin Grammy in their credit, Sanz, 56, does not accommodate. On the contrary, it moves with the vertigo of who begins again every time. “After everything I have done, of all the tours, of everything that has happened in my life, I wonder: and now how I face again to create a new album?” He confessed.
Far from fleeing to that uncertainty, hugs her as part of her creative nature. “I prefer a cliff than an endless valley,” he said.
And now what? Also includes collaborations with Border Group and Manuel Turizoand has a person on both the personal and collective. “Although I am basically optimistic, potholes exist,” said the singer. “The songs occur naturally. Some pass me, others not, but still tell them. Writing is also making a rehearsal novel.”
The Spanish singer -songwriter also spoke of his relationship with literature. His father sold books, and since the art of reading and writing he was part of his world. Although today he recognizes that he has a hard time finishing – “I haven’t hooked one for a long time” – he tries to reconnect with that habit. “With my children we exercise to leave the screens and read or look at a full movie,” he said.
Precisely, their children – four in total – have also been an essential part of this process. In the interview, he referred especially to Alexander, who is also a musician. “He lies me in everything I say,” he joked. He added: “I have been very lucky. They are good, they have a good heart, and that is the most important thing.”
One of the most anticipated moments of the EP was the reunion with Shakira. “Canting again with her has been beautiful,” he said. “It is very perfectionist, for something is number one. I had to feel the song, to have our chemistry, but not sound like The torture. We wanted something different, but just as authentic. ”
And yes, chemistry is still intact. But before the classic question of why they do not specify that link that many want, Sanz was clear. “We are always joining. But we can’t meet everyone’s expectations,” he said laughing. “The imaginations are each one,” he closed with a rogue tone.
