A false statement attributed to the Department of National Security (DHS) caused a stir this Wednesday on social networks by announcing alleged sanctions that the Donald Trump administration would implement as of January 30.

The document, which detailed five measures related to restrictions on remittances and trips to Cuba, was widely shared by users in Cuba and Miami, including communicators and activists. However, a search on the official DHS site confirmed that there is no official information about new measures against Cuba in this 2025.

The last official publication of the DHS dates from an seizure in Los Angeles of more than $ 3 million in gold jewels, carried out by agents of the National Security Research Department (HSI).

The United States Embassy in Havana reacted to rumor through its official Facebook account, urging citizens to verify the information:

“Have you heard some rumors about new immigration policies? Just trust official sources from the United States government. Do not be fooled by rumors and always verify that the information is true. Follow us on our social networks to keep you correctly informed.”

The false statement reveals the impact of misinformation on high sensitivity issues, exacerbating the debate on relations between the United States and Cuba. US authorities do not issue any comments regarding this incident so far.
