Today, January 16, in the spiritual heart of the island of Amantaní, in Lake Titicaca, the traditional festival of Pachatata and Pachamama, also known as the festival of San Sebastián, will be celebrated.
This festival, which takes place every third Thursday in January, is an event full of symbolism and mysticism that connects the inhabitants with the forces of nature and the universe. The celebration will combine rituality, music, dance and community, transforming the island into a vibrant scene of spirituality and tradition.

Around 2 thousand people will participate in this ritual, ascending the tutelary hills to symbolically recreate an act of fertility. The Quechua priest, or pacco, offers offerings to the pachamama, cleanses and blesses attendees with charcoal smoke, and pays homage to the apus.
During the morning, the communities, guided by the wise yatiris and local authorities, will begin a solemn procession to the sacred hills of the island. This act is considered a crucial moment for the spiritual and social communion of the participants.
The festival began days before with the collaboration of the ten communities of the island, led by their traditional authorities, the Campo warayos. Together they prepare the offerings, design the typical costumes and organize the activities, symbolizing the unity and strength of the community.
