Capitol attacker rejected Trump’s pardon and called it an “insult” to the police
Pamela Hemphill, a woman who was part of the mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, has rejected the pardon granted by the new president of the United States, Donald Trump, The Idaho Statesman newspaper reported this Wednesday.
“Accepting the pardon would be an insult to the Capitol Police officers, to the rule of law, to our nation,” Hemphill, 71, a resident of Boise, Idaho, said in a telephone interview with that newspaper.
“The criminals of January 6 are trying to rewrite history by ensuring that it was not a riot or an insurrection. “I don’t want to be part of your attempt to rewrite what happened that day.”he added.
Hemphill was informed on Tuesday by her lawyer that she had benefited from Trump’s pardon of nearly 1,500 people who participated in that attempted insurrection to try to stop the ratification of Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
This woman, who posted videos on social media of herself entering the Capitol that day, was sentenced to two months in prison, three years of probation and a $500 fine following a plea deal with prosecutors for a misdemeanor.
Hemphill revealed in an interview that he feels as if he was part of “a cult” that made him believe that Trump had been a victim of electoral fraud in 2020 and that Joe Biden should be prevented from assuming power.
His thoughts are now with the police officers who were injured: “It’s as if the country has let them down. “They were the heroes that day.”
