The designer Tina Knowles, mother of singer Beyoncérecently shared one of the most personal and challenging experiences of his life: breast cancer.
Knowles revealed that she was diagnosed with this disease in July 2024, when doctors detected a phase 1 tumor in her left bosom. Thanks to the fact that it was a timely detection, he was able to start the proper treatment and is currently free of cancer.
The unfortunate news came shortly after, along with his daughter, he launched a line of hair care products.

Tina remembers that the situation could have been more serious, since by carelessness he delayed his medical routine reviews. During that time, he did not notice visible symptoms that lit an alarm. “I forgot that I did not go to do the test two years before what I thought. The pandemic arrived, they called me and they canceled the appointment. They told me: ‘We will call you when we do the tests again.’ And I thought I had already done.
Therefore, he called on women not to neglect their medical reviews and perform mastographs on a regular basis to ensure that everything is fine.
Currently, Tina is launching her memoir, entitled Matriarch (Matriarch, in Spanish), where she addresses this and other experiences that have marked their way and that of her family. In an interview with “People”, he confessed that he initially hesitated to talk about such an intimate issue, but found a purpose when sharing it: “It offers many lessons for other women. I think, as women, sometimes we are so busy … but you have to get the test. If I had not done it in time, I shudder to think what could have happened to me.”

Despite not having a family history or genes related to breast cancer, Tina had to undergo surgery in August to remove the tumor. They also made a chest reduction. “I am great. Without cancer and with the immense fate that God would allow me to detect it in time,” he said.
While the procedure was successful, she contracted a serious infection that forced her to cancel her professional commitments. During that difficult moment, she received the unconditional support of her daughter Beyoncé, who encouraged her to take a break and focus on her recovery.
On how his family received the news, Knowles explained that, although it was difficult, they all maintained a positive attitude and focused on accompanying it at each step. “Mom, we’ll take care of this,” it was what Beyoncé told him.
