With the recognition that it is essential to maintain the cohesion of the artistic and intellectual movement, to create and contribute with works, thoughts and daily dedication, always for the spirituality and good of the nation, the first day of the 10th Congress of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), which culminates today at the Convention Palace.
The opening remarks, given by Marta Bonet, president of the organization, were read by the first vice president, Magda Resik, before the delegates representing more than 8,000 members.
On the occasion, Abel Prieto Jiménez, president of Casa de las Américas, presented the text Fidel y la Cultura, from the Ocean Sur publishing house, compiled by Luis Morlote and Elier Ramírez. Anyone who wants to understand the Commander in Chief’s vision on the subject has to turn to these extraordinary pages, he stated.
The inaugural session – in which two recently deceased vice presidents, Corina Mestre and Pedro de la Hoz, were especially remembered – was chaired, among other authorities, by the members of the Political Bureau, Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, and Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, general secretary of the Cuban Workers’ Central; Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the Council of State and the National Assembly of People’s Power, and Inés María Chapman Waugh, vice prime minister of the Republic of Cuba.
