Donald Trump intervenes at the Davos Forum and assures that with it a “golden era” begins in the United States

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke this Thursday, January 23, at the World Economic Forum taking place in Davos, Switzerland. In his speech, which was given virtually from Washington, the president spoke about the economic goals he will have during his term, in which he assured that will focus on fighting inflation, creating jobs, building factories, and supporting American manufacturing by eliminating taxes.

He quickly launched attacks on former President Joe Biden’s administration and touted his early reversal of executive orders from that era.

“President Biden totally lost control of what was happening in our country, but particularly with our high-inflation economy and on our border,” he said.

Subsequently, he addressed a more global audience, especially the business community, whom he called to invest in his country.

“My message to all companies in the world is very simple: come and manufacture their products in the United States and we will offer them the lowest taxes of any nation on the planet,” he stated.

“We are reducing them very substantially, even from the original Trump tax cuts. But if you don’t manufacture your product in the United States, which is your prerogative, then you will simply have to pay a tariff,” he said.

He added that these tariffs will be “different amounts,” but “They will pour hundreds of billions of dollars, and even trillions of dollars, into our treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down the debt.”

Trump then talked about international oil prices, directly linking them to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“If the price fell, the war between Russia and Ukraine would end immediately,” stressed the American president.

“Right now, the price is high enough for that war to continue. The price of oil must be reduced. “That war could be put to an end,” he indicated.

Trump also praised reports that Saudi Arabia would invest $600 billion in the United States and said he would ask the kingdom to round that figure up to $1 billion.

End of wars?

Donald Trump also had time to talk about geopolitics, stating that the United States is “acting quickly to restore strength, peace and stability abroad,” while repeating his call for NATO members to increase defense spending to 5% of their GDP, “which is what it should have been years ago.”

The US president’s request for 5% is an increase from the previous commitment of 2%, and many alliance members consider it impossible to meet it.

“Before even taking office, my team negotiated a ceasefire agreement in the Middle East, which would not have happened without us,” referring to the ceasefire in Gaza.

“We hope that our efforts to achieve a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine are now underway,” he said, adding that it was “very important to achieve it.”

He called Ukraine an “absolute killing field” and said: “It’s time to end this.”

Friction with the European Union

Trump has said again that his administration is seeking to respond to what he characterized as unfair trade relations between the United States and the European Union (EU). On Tuesday, the president had denounced “a deficit of $350 billion” with the bloc and said that “tariffs” awaited them.

“From the United States’ point of view, the EU treats us very, very unfairly, very badly,” Trump said during the question and answer portion of his appearance in Davos.

Finally, he accused the bloc of making the sale of agricultural products and vehicles to Europe “very difficult,” adding: “However, they hope to sell and do sell their products in the United States.”
