The tape recounts the life of the legendary mixed martial arts fighter (MMA), Mark Kerr, 56, an UFC icon in its initial years.
Based on the homonym documentary of HBO of 2002, “The Smashing Machine” deepens the most intense and dark aspects of Kerr’s life, showing his sports triumphs, his addictions and his unstable love relationship.
According to DNA, in this production, Dwayne Johnson plays an unrecognizable Mark Kerr, in a role that moves him away from his usual image of action and shows him vulnerable and devastated by his internal struggles. Emily Blunt plays Dawn Staples, her sentimental partner, in a performance that promises to be key to the emotional dimension of history.
The cast of the film and when it opens
The cast includes outstanding names of the world of cinema and the MMA: Lyndsey Gavin as Elizabeth Coleman, Oleksandr Usyk as Igor Vovchanchyn, Bas Rutten playing himself, Ryan Bader as Mark Coleman, Satoshi Ishii as Deson Inoue, James Mootasri as Akira Shoji, Yoko Hamamura as Kazuyuki Fujita, Paul Cheng as Masaaki Satake, Cyborg Abreu as Fábio Gurgel, Andre Tricoteux as Paul Varelans, Paul Lazenby as Hans Nijman and Zoe Kosovic as McKenzie Coleman.
“The Smashing Machine” will premiere on October 3, 2025 in United States movie theaters. Although its arrival date in Latin America has not yet been confirmed, it is expected that in countries like Mexico it will be available since Thursday, October 2.
The tape promises to be a raw and inspiring portrait of a legend of the MMA, and will mark a new stage in Johnson’s career, with a performance with a more dramatic and human approach.
