The actress and singer Jennifer Lopez dazzles in the first images of Kiss of the Spider Womanhis new musical film directed by Bill Condon, where he plays a fictitious diva of the cinema that inhabits the mind of a prisoner. The film, based on the original work of Terrence McNally, with music by John Kander and Fred EBB, is located in Argentina of 1981during the military dictatorship.

In that oppressive context, Valentín (Diego Luna), a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh Elizarraz), a man imprisoned by “public indecency” who evades himself from reality by telling the plots of old movies. Lopez embodies the fictitious diva that gives name to the title: a femme fatale Nickname “The Spider Woman”that seduces and destroys his lovers in a dreamlike universe full of music and desire. Critics who have already attended their projection in Sundance have defined Lopez’s interpretation as notorious. The Middle Variety has said of it that it provides “a welcome evasion of the gloomy world of Argentine prisoners.”

In addition to its powerful dramatic burden, the proposal stands out for its ability to unite fantasy, political criticism and tribute to old Hollywood. The film, which adapts Broadway’s famous musical, will reach US cinemas October 10, and promises to be one of the great cinematographic events of 2025.
