From “Minecraft” to the Dana de Valencia

Approach the world of fires to the little ones, help them enhance their ingenuity and creativity or promote the development of critical capacity. These are some of the objectives pursued by ESCOLARS FOGUES CONTESTorganized by the Department of Fiestas and that this year celebrates its nineteenth edition. On this occasion there are 17, compared to 25 in 2023 and the 22 of last year, the educational centers that participate in the two categories that the contest has. Nine do it in children and eight in the youth, for older.
As with the bonfires, the monuments made by the children, with the collaboration of teachers and parents, address popular charactersin this case of universes such as video games or cartoons, ranging from Minecraft to Peppa Pig, through the Smurfs or Pocoyo, but they also have space for criticism and to become aware of current issues, some that have passed as close as the Dana that at the end of October last year ravaged the province of Valencia.

Another objective that the contest is looking for is to promote the bonfires among the Alicante educational community. The monuments that participate this year had to be planted this Tuesday at 9 am and the jury will visit them on Wednesday. The AWARDS RELATIONSHIP It will be known next Monday, 16. The amount allocated to these awards is 1,500 euros, regardless of other distinctions granted, such as the “Manuel Porras” trophy, which rewards the best design and composition among the participants.
Calasancio school was one of last year’s winners and has been participating in the contest for four years. «We really have been making a bonfire. Pandemia forced us to change the dates and then decided to separate the initiative of the end -of -course party and participate in the municipal contest, ”explains the Head of Studies, Gonzalo Sancho, one of those responsible for the project at school. «Students are the ones who take care of everything and distribute the tasks of making ninots, auctions, structures or slogans. In total, some 320 students participate, ”he adds.

From another of the Alicante schools that participate in the contest, in this case the Tossal, shares its impressions one of the mothers who collaborate with the youngest to lift their bonfire, Sabrina Belarte. «It is an inclusive experience, open to fathers and mothers. Those of us who like to make crafts join. We have been doing things for 10 years bonfire And there are people very involved with the project that teach those who add, ”says Bearte.
The fact that the activity involves many people in the educational community is also underlined by the head of Calasancio Studies. “The students They participate in groups of five and receive the note of their work. In the end there is a very cool bonfire, ”says Sancho, before adding:« This year we have coined the expression ‘shared treasure’ as motto and we have put the focus on four languages: Spanish, Valencian, English and French ».
In the Tossal, Belarte celebrates that this edition is not expected to rain when the jury passes to see the participating bonfires, unlike what happened last year. All the material they use is recycled, such as toilet paper, containers or papers that are left over from the school day. «We turned what was going to the trash into something new. For children it is important to see that with what was going to the trash you can do magic. They get involved and aware of things that have happened, such as the Dana de Valencia, ”he concludes.
