Gloria Estefan revealed her important role in the success of Shakira’s first English album

Cuban singer and producer Gloria Estefan revealed what her role in the recording of the first English album made by Colombian singer Shakira at the beginning of her career and became a success in the Anglo -Saxon market. According to Estefan, her husband, Emilio Estefan did not believe that an album totally in English of a Latin artist would be successful.
In an interview for the Molusco TV program, conducted by announcer Jorge Pabón, Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan talked about the beginnings of Shakira’s musical career.
Gloria Estefan explained that she had the idea that the album ‘Laundry Service’ was totally in English and was convinced that this would turn the album into a great success in the United States.
When Shakira began working with the music producer Emilio Estefan, Gloria Estefan insisted that the artist could succeed in the United States recording her new album totally in English.
“I fought hard for Shakira because when she entered, that she was going to make the Spanish album with Emilio, I said: ‘You can do this in English. Shaki, the sound of yours, total, you can do this,” Gloria said.
Gloria Estefan dedicated himself to making arrangements of two songs from Shakira, inevitable and eyes like this, and worked the phonetics with the artist to manage to record them properly in the new language. The Cuban singer said that Shakira proved to be “intelligent, fighter and worker.”
“I sat down with her to phonetically record it. And I say: ‘You see that you can, this can explode,” he recalled.
However, Gloria Estefan confessed that she had to convince her husband Emilio scam this idea. The music producer wanted Shakira to do only two songs from the English album. “I said: ‘Tommy, his audience in Spanish wants to hear it in Spanish, and the public in English will not buy an album for two songs. They are very expensive because it was still when they were selling CD,” he said.
Emilio Estefan considered that this idea could bring the album to failure, Gloria recalled. However, Gloria was convinced that it would be a success and replied: “I say, and if it is a success, it will be mine too.” Indeed ‘Laundry Service’ was a great success in the United States and the world selling more than 13 million dollars.
Pabón asked Gloria Estefan about royalty percentages after that success, to which Gloria Estefan made it clear that the success of the album is Shakira’s responsibility thanks to her hard work.
“No, I don’t want it. She deserves all that, but I had to fajar for her, because she is a great fighter and I knew,” he said. “Every time a Latin triumphs, we all succeed,” he said citing her husband Emilio Estefan.
