“I think the fans made a kind of spell to happen”: Sanz about the joint with Shakira

The Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz, based in Miami, releases this Friday ‘And now what? “The musical health of the songs.”
In the four years after his last album, the 55 -year -old from Madrid, crossed a love break, began a new relationship, reinstated in Miami and changed recorda personal and creative journey that, he said, is present in his new production.
“I have tried to do things that do not sound to me, but I have not achieved it. I have a very strong root that comes from flamenco, which comes from all the music that has been from me childhood And that will persecute me forever, ”he confesses.
Even so, with more than three decades of career, Sanz admits that he is still looking to surprise himself: “I always try to do something different, because I am not able to fun With this, I deserve that I fall a ray. ”
With this in mind, he brought together some of the most prominent composers of current Latin music, such as Edgar Barrera, Elena Rose, Andy Clay, Spreadlof, Casta, Richi López, Luis Salazar and Héctor Rubén Rivera, who contributed new Perspectives to a sound that is still unmistakably yours. He also decided that, instead of a traditional album, he would release six songs in EP format (extended play).

“At first I had my doubts with this way of working, but it has many advantages. Work with others Composers It has a special freshness and, above all, it is more beneficial for health, but not only for physics, but also for the musical health of songs, ”he says.
He also rediscovered that his previous 20 years in Miami had made him local, as far as music is concerned. “For me all this way of communicating is very close. Caribbean music, Latin American music, music here, is part of me too, as is the flamenco”, Highlights.
The result is a work that runs through different emotional states, from the heartbreak of ‘palm trees in the garden’ and ‘I don’t feel good today’ (next to Grupo Frontera), to the desire and romanticism of ‘That is love’, ‘The wine in your mouth’ and ‘What would it be?’, With the Colombian Manuel Turizo.
Another outstanding collaboration of the album is ‘Besame’, his highly anticipated reunion with Shakira Almost 20 years after ‘the torture’. “I think the fans made a kind of spell to happen,” he jokes.
The album is also influenced by a deeply personal source: his son Alex, who has taken music under the artistic name of Quint already who Sanz listens with attention and who added to the interview.

“I make music now as next to rock and folk. And I am always sharing my music with my father. So, nothing, I hope that one way or another inspires him a little,” explains Alex.
“If you listen to any song that sounds to you, take it as a tribute,” replies the proud father.
In addition to the recommendations of his now musical colleague, Sanz says that his ‘playlists’ reflects his “eclectic musical tastes”, ranging from Camarón, Paco de Lucía, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown, Ana Mena and Milo J.
Sanz currently prepares his tour, ‘Now what?’, What starts in September in Mexico with a dozen concerts.
“I just closed the band, how it will be formed. We are already looking at designs for the stage. I have also been doing what the repertoirealways knowing that I have to have a balance and sing some life songs, but I want to sing new songs too, that is, enough, ”he confesses.
In addition, he has returned to the studio: “Again trying to play with music, with other people and other ways of understanding and writing. In fact, I have been doing new songs. I am doing very interesting things,” he says.
For him, it is the minimum he must do for himself and his audience. “I have the best job From the world and if I don’t have a good time, I deserve a penance. ”
