ICE “Allanó” business in Newark to stop migrants, says Mayor – Telemundo Puerto Rico
New Jersey – Agents of the United States Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) arrested a Puerto Rican on Thursday during a raid to capture unauthorized immigrants.
The operation occurred at the local Seaan Seafood Depot Distributor, in Newark.
“One of the men is a veteran, and as I see it, it was because it looks Hispanic. He is from Puerto Rico and the manager of our warehouse, ”said the business owner, Luis Janota, to local media.
“The agents (from ICE) made a raid in a local establishment in the city of Newark and arrested undocumented and citizens residents without presenting a court order,” denounced the mayor, Ras Baraka, in a statement. “Newark will not be left with crossed ones while illegally terrified people.”
Baraka said the veteran “suffered the indignity that the legitimacy of his military documentation was questioned.”
Rafael Pujols gives us the details.
The mayor described the “atrocious” operation and said that he violated the fourth amendment of the Constitution, which clarifies “the right of people to the safety of their people, houses, papers and effects, against registries and unutitable unutitations.”
In a statement, ICE said agents “can meet American citizens while doing field work and can request an identification to establish the identity of an individual, as was the case during a compliance operation of the law directed in a place of work today. “
The spokesman said it was part of an active investigation and “according to the ICE policy, we cannot talk about ongoing investigations.”
