The main point of concentration of the mobilizations was the People’s March, held at the Lincoln Memorial in the North American capital and that brought together more than 50 thousand people, according to local media.

It is a revival of the historic 2017 Women’s Marchwhich occurred in the context of Trump’s first term and which brought together millions of people, in a government that paved the way for states that decide to do so to reverse the right to abortion.

The protests are taking place as part of a “weekend of action” convened by twenty social organizations that demand the need for structural changes that benefit communities and are focused on social justice and the search for well-being.

One of the motivations of the organizers is to generate a long-term resistance movement against the conservative policies of the Republican president and his cabinet, whose members stand out for their ideas, which range from the fervent defense of mass deportations of Latin Americans , even climate change denialism.

So the country is evidently polarized before the inauguration of the tycoon who has announced mass deportations as one of his first actions. Protesters in Washington, mostly women, carried signs with messages such as: “Feminists against fascists” and “People above politics.”

In this regard, Mini Timmaraju, director of the advocacy group Reproductive Freedom for All, as a harbinger of the future, told the gathered crowd: “It is really comforting to be here today with all of you in solidarity and unity, in the face of what is going to be extremism.” really horrible.”

Tamika Middleton, director of the Women’s March and organizer of the massive protests, told the press that the objective is not only to carry out the march en masse, but also to make people reflect and motivate them to join the fight against long term.

On the other hand, defenders and followers of the president have called for demonstrations at victory rallies, one of which will take place on January 19 in the capital of the northern country. Just as a March for Life has been scheduled for January 24.
