Is no 2025 song a global hit?

The successful lists looked so depressing. Or, at least, so boring. To those who have always enjoyed checking what people listen, what emerges from the street, we have no other entertainment than to wait for the last absurd viral of Tiktok, with faith in which the aforementioned has the quality of ‘Dreams’ of Fleetwood Mac or at least ‘love me not’ by Ravyn Lenae.
For years, success lists were flooded with old hits. The streaming era and the strange and very questionable way in which it computes in countries like the United States converted album lists into a constant “average series” in which the same compilations and the same albums of other centuries always appear. Discs that the middle listener does not even know that they exist, but whose clues jump in a random or in a spotify playlist random. We already knew this for 10 years, but what we are finding this 2025 on the lists is already the absolute courage.
They may like it more or less current successes, but it is that not a single launch of the first four -month period of the year has been unanimously and global. Between the Latin thrust, that of the K-Pop and the decline of the “American” empire, which increasingly carries more Donald Trump’s printed face, the market had never been so segregated.
Spotify’s successes is plagued by songs that come from 2024, which are 6 months old in the best of cases; And in the worst, one year; Or even more. I am referring to songs that I love, be careful, all present in our list of better 2024 songs: ‘Die with a smile’ by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars; ‘Birds of a feather’ by Bilie Eilish; or ‘Espresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter, which 375 days after its launch, still appears in the 14th place of the Spotify global.
Let’s add equally old themes like Rosé’s ‘APT’ with Bruno Mars, ‘That’s So True’ by Gracie Abrams, ‘Beautiful Things’ by Benson Boone, the effects of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl and we already have the immovable top 10 of all these months that we have been in 2025.
The most recent thing that has triumphed lately are Bad Bunny’s themes, which are highlighting together without firm favorite (it is more a success of their album), and in turn they have a limited draft in Europe (Spain apart). We must also highlight some late viral from Tiktok, such as ‘Messy’ of Lola Young that is really a song published a year ago. Or the case of ‘Anxiety’ by Doecchi, a hit that is this year, but got into YouTube in 2019 and sample a theme of 2011. The eternal revival.
Neither the playlists of the platforms nor the radio are willing to risk an apex, and the normal thing is that both the discs and the singles that are launching the market last 1 week or 2 on the lists. Some do not go with hot water, others forget them in less than 15 days, and the middle ground has ceased to exist.
In this article we collect some cases of the lists of successes of recent months: there are skates and also surviving miraculous. It is true that some have not highlighted precisely for their quality. It is also true that playlists, radios, the public is not opening towards interesting releases that have existed, by people like FKA Twigs or Addison Rae. To these, for the lists, we do not expect them (until Tiktok says otherwise).
Lizzo Rotundo Failure
How much a successful artist can last today, ask Lizzo. In its previous era, ‘About Damn Time’ managed to be number 1 of the Billboard Hot 100, Top 3 in the United Kingdom and a success settled in countries as particular as Mexico or Japan. In this era, he has not achieved that ‘Still Bad’, much less ‘Love in Real Life’, are stuck by a top 100. Well, the first one scored a top 100 in Canada.

Miley Cyrus considerable failure
Another that has returned with modest results, although not so catastrophic, is Miley Cyrus. The artist has placed in lists the first single of her new album, ‘End of the World’, an issue that sounded commercial and almost desperate as a Coldplay hit, but has not gone from anecdotal positions.

Rotundo of Lil Nas X Failure
Lil Nax X was a day the King of Billboard with ‘Old Town Road’, with and without Billy Ray Cyrus. Then, issues such as ‘Monro’ e ‘Industry Baby’ even exceeded their streams. Something that simply will not happen with any of the many singles that has revealed from its new project. The best located, ‘Hotbox’, adds 7 million streams a month and a half after its launch. That is, less than ‘I have a thought’ by Amaia, a Spanish local artist who does not even have projection in Latam.

Disappointing Ed Sheeran data
Heterocis male artists seem to have VIP pass for playlists and radios, but Ed Sheeran does not get rid of disappointing data. Before for him to get a number 1 in the United Kingdom, he was eaten bread, and it is no longer at all. What is worse, its international impact is very limited. So much so that by Spain its theme ‘Azizam’ has not appeared.

The Weeknd cling to 2024
Who is sweating ink to add a topic with 1,000 million streams is The Weeknd. ‘Timeless’ with Playboi Carti will eventually achieve it, but again: it is a topic of last year, specifically of September, it was not number 1 in any large market, and the reach of the rest of the topics of its 2025 album is being extremely limited. Has anyone learned if ‘Cry for Me’ was an official single? And ‘Open Hearts’? Us either.

Drake saves furniture in Anglo countries
Drake is saved from burning thanks to the viral of ‘Nokia’, which touches the number 1 of the Billboard Hot 100. Of course, we must clarify that its success is already limited to countries in which English is official language. Drake triumphs in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia … that kind of places, but no longer appears in countries such as Spain, France or Italy. And I swear that there was a day when ‘One Dance’ was officially number 2 in Spain.

Nothing new, Lana del Rey
Wool of the King is in the global lists. The problem is that it appears with ‘Summertime Sadness’ and ‘Young and Beautiful’, songs that are over 10 years old. If we talk about ‘Henry, eat on’, it didn’t start badly, but fell soon. It is very doubtful to come back. ‘Bluebird’ … neither is it expected.

Not even Gaga?
‘Mayhem’ is a resounding success for Lady Gaga since weeks before her presentation in Coachella, but the scope of ‘Abracadabra’ only shows how things are for an electropop hit in English. The issue has failed to be number 1 in any significant market, and not only because it has obscured ‘Die with a smile’. It is rather that the formula of the current lists represents a ordeal for an issue of these characteristics.

Jennie is saved at the moment
Among the artists of South Korea who are managing to resist Hurricane 2024, Jennie de Blackpink, who has strengthened ‘Like Jennie’ in global lists with some presence in markets almost everywhere. In Spain we have not learned well with this, but in France, Germany or Japan. With a little of each country and much of Indonesia or Thailand, we can consider Jennie a small global hit.

The Bad Bunny case
Among the closest to a global hit of what we have been from year, nothing less than a song in Spanish, which was not even a single presentation of Bad Bunny’s last album. ‘DTMF’, viral in Tiktok, approaches 700 million streams in Spotify after having razed Latin markets, and even having put a little piece in UK. Special mention also for ‘the full’ of W Sound, current Top 10 in the Spotify global.
