Singer Taylor Swift announced this weekend that she finally became the legitimate owner of the rights of her first six studio albums, ending a long battle for her artistic legacy. The 35 -year -old star shared the news with her followers through Instagram, accompanying her publication with a symbolic image where she holds the original versions of her albums, under the message: “You Belong To Me”.
The conflict dates back to 2019, when his former label, Big Machine Records, sold the masters of his initial albums to Scooter Braun, an entrepreneur that Swift has accused of harassment and manipulation. The sale was made without its consent, covering the Taylor Swift discs, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and reputation.
The artist, determined to recover control of her work, initiated an ambitious re -regulations campaign under the name Taylor’s Version, a strategy with which she launched new editions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989. With these four relapsed albums, only reputation and their debut album were pending.
This weekend, Swift confirmed that it reached an agreement with Shamrock Capital, the firm that owned its masters, to definitely acquire them. According to Billboard reports, the transaction was closed for 360 million dollars, a figure below 600 million that Scooter Braun originally paid. The decrease in value is attributed to the successful re -regulations campaign, which reduced the commercial attraction of the original masters.
“To say that this is a dream of being short,” said the winner of 14 Grammy Awards in an emotional message to her followers. “All the music I have made, now it belongs to me … completely to me. Thank you for supporting me and giving me strength to achieve it.”
In addition to the musical catalog, Taylor now also has the rights of distribution and marketing of its video clips, live recordings, photographs, and material related to its tours before The Eras Tour.
The artist publicly thanked the Shamrock Capital team for facilitating the agreement and was moved by what he considers an “unprecedented personal and professional victory.”
On the remaining re -regions, Swift clarified that reputation (Taylor’s version) will not be reissued in its entirety, although it plans to launch some unpublished songs of that album. As for his first album, he explained that he has only re -recorded one part and that he will evaluate later if he completes the project.
Swift concluded his message ensuring that his motivation was always being able to work enough to buy his own work. “The emotions that come with this conquest, with total autonomy and without intermediaries, will accompany me forever.”
