Jennifer López was sued by the photographer White Edwin and the agency Backgrid USAwho claim $ 1.35 million for publishing without authorization nine photographs taken by them. The images, shared on January 4, 2025 on their social networks, show the artist in an event prior to the Golden Globes in Los Angeles. According to the demand, López used the photos – without water or loans – to “Advertising purposes, promoting designers and collaborations with brands”.

The lawyer Peter Perkowskirepresentative of the plaintiffs, said: “The unauthorized use by Mrs. López is commercial (…) demonstrating intentional contempt for copyright”. He added that, after contacting her to negotiate, an agreement was not reached. López already faced a similar case in 2019 for a photo with Alex Rodríguez, which, according to Perkowski, “He put it on the legal consequences”.

Similar cases with other celebrities:

  • Gigi Hadid (2019): Demanded for publishing a photo without permission. The case dismissed due to lack of legal registration of the image.

  • Dua Lipa (2021 and 2022): accused twice for using paparazzi photos on Instagram for “Economic benefit”.

  • Khloé Kardashian (2017): He withdrew an image after a demand of $ 175,000 per Xposure Photos.

White and Backgrid look for $ 150,000 for each published photo (4 in X and 5 on Instagram). The demand underlines a pattern in the industry, where celebrities share professional content without compensating its creators.
